Avocados and Never a Dull Moment in Everyday Ramblings

Cheerful, non? By the track Sunday. Because of our bizarre weather the poppies and their variants are early and the roses that were not pruned are out and overblown in only a few days of warmth and rain. The City of Roses may not be for much longer with climate change under way.

My doctor came up with another, affordable statin to try but she did not send the prescription to the mail order pharmacy; she sent it to the pharmacy at ground level in the outpatient building where her office is.

This was a bit of a dilemma for me as I have not been inside anywhere but my apartment and the grocery store for 8 weeks. I took a mask, alcohol wipes and a plastic bag to put the mask in when I got out of there.

After walking to the clinic building avoiding the few other folks out and about I put on my mask and was the only person there for pick-up. I got asked “the questions” and because I had a mask on was able to step up to the newly installed shield and talked to the staff member dispensing filled prescriptions and the pharmacist.

I had to use a tissue to handle the stylus to sign for debit card use, which was crazy awkward but doable and after the clerk handed me the prescription there was hand sanitizer. A handwriting expert would be unlikely to recognize my signature under these circumstances but the job was done.

About two blocks away I carefully took off my flannel lined mask and placed it in the plastic bag I had brought for the purpose and then used a dish towel to deposit the mask in the washer when I got home after washing my hands etc.

I got a big chunk of my steps for the day and all “my” floors and most of my cardio so it all worked out but everyday now as we slowly open up new challenges and temptations occur.

I talked to one of my students today that has not been participating in classes and she is depressed. I hope she can find someone to engage with regularly about her concerns. It is so easy when we are on our own, to slip into a kind of dark sticky fog…

My amazing niece, who is the mother of the amazing Miss E., sent me a box of the best looking organic avocados you have ever seen a few days ago. They are huge! Twice the size of store bought avocados and there are two different varieties so they will ripen at different times.

There was all kinds of information included with them about varieties, and a tool for scooping and a cookbook. Tomorrow I am going to make this yummy looking breakfast casserole with a couple of them. It calls for vegetables and it is peak asparagus season here so I will use that.

Oh and there is a cookie recipe! Who would have thought to put avocado in an oatmeal cookie but it looks yummy. I will report back.

I gave a couple of the avocados to Charity after our trip to the grocery yesterday. The exchange involved a clean dishtowel and no bare hand involvement.

Oh and there were a bunch of sweet tangerines in the box too.

Apparently I am getting a box next month and the month after directly from the small farm.

I recorded a 23 or so minute lower back practice on Monday. My next one will be much better as I have finally, after the fact, learned to do a little editing. The practice is simple, mostly on the floor with no props.

Let me know if you would like the link to the class. Just put your email in a private email below and I will forward it on.

Give me a few more months at this and the video editing quality will be a lot better! Think of it like a goofy friend showing you the moves.

But now I have dish towels to fold, a shower to take, my own practice to do before I teach.

Never a dull moment here in quarantine.
