So silk is an interesting fiber. For one its from the cocoon of silk moths. Mine is from Mulberry silk worms which primarily eat mulberry leaves. I ordered silk lap as its called which are huge sheets of silk stretched out. Its many fine layers kinda sandwiched together.
I decided to dye some today. Here is what I learned. Silk loves dye. LOVES dye. Ive never seen anything as thirsty as silk for dye haha.
I videoed it, It takes less then 1 minute for HOT dye bath to absorb into fiber. It takes 3 minutes for a COLD dyebath to absorb into fiber.
Now its drying in the wind :)
ok so this prob wont work. BUT maybe? If not follow the link to the instagram video to see how fast it takes up dye hhaa.
Dyebath!
