And still they come in At the foot of the hill

From the east facing bedroom window on the third floor of our cozy apartment, the panorama is wide and lovely. I see, across the roof tops and the placid little lake, the green carpet of grass spread across gently rolling hills scattered with walking paths, picnic shelters, and playground equipment. There in a low spot stands a modern structure that serves as a band shell. Just beyond that, a few hundred yards from my vantage point, is a tall and steep mound the top of which is eye level to me, looking out of my window.
This prominent spot is called Rebel Hill and is home to the unusual monument to the victims of the Columbine school shooting. I can see in silhouette the arms of the crosses that stand on the top of the hill, one for each victim. Many times I see people moving about up there, going from cross to cross. Again, only silhouettes. Classmates? Family members? Are they there out of respect? Remembering? Curious?
This week marks 21 years since this horrible incident cast a shadow over us. And still they comeā€¦. We will never forget. We are ALL Columbine.
