So far my least favorite thing about working from home and everything going on is the emotional labor. You see, at the end of the day my job is about fixing what other people or circumstances have broken. This includes things that have been broken by politicians, police, judges, the courts, criminals, civilians… if it is broken and effects this county (apparently) my boss and I are the ones people go to searching for resolutions.

Well… thing is? That takes an emotional toll even in the best of times.

Add the separation (the legal one), the virus, the isolation, the stresses of what life has become? The emotional labor is heavier now.

There were 5 hearings today, nine phone calls, countless emails, and 3 requests by the clerk of court to fix an error made by the judge… because apparently even when it is an error by the judge, it is my duty to fix it. And it shall be much the same tomorrow.

And emotional weight is… as I have said before… my coping mechanism has always been fellowship with others. Whether the Play Crew here, visiting MBFITWW, visiting my brother and his family, visiting my parents, or going to see my friends in Des Moines. All those options for dealing with the building emotional weight. But forbidden to me. Rightly so, obviously. But truly… the emotional weight is heavy. And carrying it as I must right now is… burdensome.
