Your on a Coal load. The symbol, could be a myriad of what I ran. Four on the head end and 2 on the helper. Between MP 23 and MP 24.7, before the cut-over to Santa Fe MP’s near the Sedalia Crossover. There are curves, you’re on grade. Just before Manhardt Street crossing, it levels off a bit. The units are straining, and 10-15 mph if ya can make it.

THE DOG:
I never knew this dogs name. Ed Ferris said they were stopped at Sedalia on a gang order. A little girl with the dog appeared. Ed said “Hey, is this the dog that chases us through Sedalia?”
“Yes..this is Stinky, we can’t keep him from doing this, so if you run over him, please don’t feel bad”. LOL Stinky. What can we do. There is a dirt crossing..and yes at this writing still exists , the the next is a gated crossing at Manhardt Street.

I have encountered Stinky many times. It is now 2020, I am retired for almost eight years. Stinky has been long passed. Two cars before the dirt crossing, barking, in the middle of the tracks..running up, letting us have it. I have many times, saw Stinky, disappear , only to see him, reappear. Running by the train..10 to 20 car lengths..snapping barking. During this time Stinky was one tired Dog at the end of the day.

Stinky’s Kingdom, The dirt crossing and Manhardt Street. We the Rails, invaded that territory.
