no gods no guillotines in poetry

Any freedom won by violence or its threat will be lost,
by and by, in a generation or three’s time, no matter
how noble the intent. Its history won’t teach your
progeny the value of freedom, only the awful
power of terror.

Too many on all sides thirst for a grand ending
where they either win or die. A Rapture that’ll
never happen on the right, a Glorious Revolution
that’ll never happen on the left. For me, too too
many die in either scenario, I just want progress.

Would be messiahs tend to just get good men
killed and bad men into a killing mood.
Don’t try to be great men
just try to do good and
maybe we’ll get to a
better place yet.
