The kids’ school is closed indefinitely. The neighboring county schools are closed until at least April 20th. In practice since many of the school district employees live in the neighboring county, we will probably go back to school if/when they do. The kids are doing online learning. For Kayla and Timmy, this seems more like a preview of college work, since they are working more independently. Not sure what will happen with AP exams. There is talk that they will do the exams at home, but nothing definite yet.
Scary stuff with the coronavirus going around. I am worried about my family and friends, especially those who are older. My dad is almost seventy and in fairly good shape, but he’s had some heart problems in the past. I have noticed that many fewer people are going to work. Most of the restaurants and bars are closed. You can still get delivery and takeout. We are currently waiting for a pizza to arrive. I understand the reason for the closures, but I worry about everyone who works in the hospitality industry making a living during this time. I saw something today about how the government is planning to give people money? I’m sure it won’t make up for what these people are losing in income.
So far the kids have managed to keep entertained. They can talk to their friends digitally, and they have met with one or two close friends. Kayla and Timmy have actually had a couple of babysitting and yard work jobs over the past few days. People don’t want to take their kids with them when they get supplies.
The library is also closed and the due dates are all extended. There is supposed to be a digital library that I need to look at.
