Yep, after nearly a week of gorgeous weather they're predicting, after tonight, four nights down into the twenties. I may have stashed the goosedown bag a little early.
Mom sent me a phone card. Yesterday I started making calls to let everybody know I was once again reachable, after nearly three months. And of course no one answered their phone until after I'd left five voicemails for five different people my sis-in-law answered. I now know the name of my latest grand-nephew- Nathaniel Wade. And since my brothers oldest daughter kept her maiden name and her husband chose it as his married name, he has my Dads last name.
Mom also sent me $40. That will take care of the P.O. Box rent the 1st of July, with enough left over for a haircut. Unless I let it grow out along with the beard.
I had finished the latest book- "Goddesses" by Joseph Campbell on Wednesday. After inventing agriculture, the second big screw up for humanity was taking power from goddesses and giving it to gods.
Thursday morning I walked to the library and turned in the book. I walked up to the post office and found the letter from Mom. I also found a card from the tax people saying my statement hadn't been received. I walked up to the tax office. They had my assessment. I walked on to the credit union and deposited the check from Mom.
Jassy called this afternoon. It was so good to hear her voice. She sounded good. Maybe a little tired. She has a list of ten apartments to check out here in the city next time she makes it down here. I asked her about her mother, how she was doing. She said the couple that was living with her had moved out. Now we're both worried about her mother living alone, as she's never really lived alone before. And she'll be alone for a while as her boyfriend just got sentenced. He received five years on the weapons charge and ten years for the pot farm. So he'll be gone for at least a dozen years. And Grandma's boyfriend who jumped bail on his charges for the pot farm hasn't been heard from since. He left without squaring away the house, so the house is still in his name and the property taxes haven't been paid for several years. Jassy's mom is a little upset about that because he apparently had about a quarter million dollars in cash when he took off. Crazy.
The weather turns cooler once again starting tomorrow. I guess I'll be going over to the university for the days for at least a week. At least I'll get a break from sandwiches.
I've had to go over to Burger King the last two nights because the wifi here at Hardee's was doing that non-working thing. Tonight it is working, but there is also a group of people watching a game on the big screen and they've got it turned up to blaring. I've got my headphones with Big Feat Radio on iTunes to counteract it, somewhat.
I'm now reading a book that was translated from Russian. I always wonder how much liberty the translator takes with the language.
Anyway, enough rambling.
