Bathing in the Beautiful Light in Everyday Ramblings

Happy Equinox! Happy light at just the right angle. May you have something resembling light no matter what hemisphere you are in. I admit that I am a little restless about the fact that it still gets plenty cold at night.

If this keeps up I may take an evolutionary leap and start growing feathers. Birds are so good at managing to stay warm without fancy tights and hand warmers. This morning I powered up the small mountain behind my place with my computer and water in my backpack to train some of my customers on our new fancy technology.

This is another shot from last Saturday’s bird outing. Kes came up this afternoon and we spent a bunch of time pouring over my new bird books marveling at how much we didn’t know. I am pretty sure I have seen a Pipet or a Hermit Thrush and didn’t know it. They are similar but hang out in different habitats.

There is a little more positive news from Seattle. My sister is still really struggling but she is finally getting stronger. The treatments, including a big shot into the fatty part of her belly each day sounds just crazy making. The word is that she is a tad more coherent and able to carry on a relatively normal conversation of sorts. She is talking to the discharge nurse. Fingers crossed she can come home and doesn’t need to go to a skilled nursing facility.

I find work exhausting right now. They are shuffling us all around in space in the office in about four weeks. We finally got the final seating chart yesterday. The first pass was anxiety inducing. They had me right across from Mrs. Quill and Saint Joe three rows away. Now (after some relatively good natured whining) I am slotted to be three rows away from her in a much better place. Saint Joe will be in the cube next to mine. We will have a cube wall between us but he is tall so we can talk over the wall if we need eye contact.

But the best news of all is that I get to telecommute an extra day! I’ll only be expected in the office two days a week. That will make everything so much better. And Saint Joe and I will be on the same schedule. He’s very excited to start telecommuting. He’s 26 years old. This is a big deal for him.

The best part for me with telecommuting is that I am way more active when I do. I stand up and talk on the phone. I wander into another room when I am thinking things through and I can go out and walk the track at lunchtime. Something I can’t do when I am in the office. So I am thrilled.

Tomorrow I have my final TB test and my last vaccination. I start teaching the caregiving class this next Tuesday. It will be so great when I get comfortable with the whole routine and meet the support team. I hear they are marvelous. Very cool vibe to be around.

Oh yeah. Who couldn't use some good vibrations now and then?

I have been so lucky all my working years to be where I can get up and pace around, in circles if need be, mulling things over, or merely to chat a minute with someone to get a different 'take' on things. Heck I even worked one place in downtown Atlanta where I walked around the building every day outside, climbed over a small fence, and put bird food out in front of the boss' window. He was much too tense, and I encouraged him to watch the birds and sometimes even a bunny, right smack dab in the middle of downtown Atlanta next to an overgrown lot.... Perhaps if you just start wandering or pacing, everyone will get used to it and then not even notice....

Or maybe it will bother everyone so much, they will let you telecommute every day and not come in at all?

Glad to hear some good news on your sister; home would be such a comfort.
And, an added benefit of more telecommuting is Sammy will have the pleasure of your company more. Nothing like scratching a kitty's head for clarity.

Excellent news re: your sister, and I, too, hope she won't require a skilled nursing situation when she leaves the hospital. I'd love being at home three days and working outside of the home two, I thought and then realized I did that back before I retired. Was productive on lots of levels as you say. Lovely entry.

Oh, very very good news about the telecommuting! And the arranging of seating in the office.

Feathers sound like a great idea. I wear my down vests daily (I have an assortment) and they help keep me somewhat sane as we endure the not-at-all-spring temperatures.

That picture is gorgeous. Hooray for the light!
