Enjoying spring
I went to the small local park with the dog today. The cherry blossom was out and it looked beautiful. It was the first time I have been out since we went shopping last Friday. I have been spen...
The return of community
Louise and I were talking this morning about how things were when I was a child, how there was much more of a sense of community then, people were always there to help out in a crisis. My parents...
It is us who are gone
I went to post a letter this afternoon. It’s the first time I’ve walked up the main road since the lockdown. It was so strange seeing all of the shops and cafes closed and boarded up. It felt lik...
Sad news
I heard yesterday that my friend, Tony, who was in the nursing home following a diagnosis of Altzheimers 2 years ago, died yesterday morning. I don’t know what his illness was, just that his wife...
Social distancing
What a difference a week makes. This time last week we went to the park for our Mother’s Day outing. We were being careful, keeping our distance from other people, but it still felt Ok to go out....
Blowing in the wind
The buildings on the main road we overlook were originally residential. Now most have been converted to shops and businesses, some with flats above. The pavements were wide and most of the shops ...
Alternate universe
When I got up at 8.30 am this morning and went into the living room it felt like being in a different world. This flat is on a busy road about a mile and a half from the centre of Cardiff. The li...
Mother's Day
We had a lovely day yesterday. We went to a local park. There were quite a lot of people but it is a big park and it was possible to keep the 2 meters distance. The sun was shining and the lake w...
Empty shelves
We went shopping yesterday. I was nervous about going but, as well as groceries, I needed to go to the pharmacy to get some co-codamol for my migraines and Louise needed some vegan cheese from th...
The blossom tree
I was feeling a bit down yesterday morning. My trip home was cancelled because I was still not feeling too well; I felt quite feverish Monday evening, but still no other symptoms. I rang Hubby to...
Spring, a change of name, and worries about Corona
I am really enjoying the spring weather. On Thursday it was warm enough to sit in the garden, albeit with a fleece over my jumper. I managed to prune some roses when I was at home on Wednesday an...
Brick walls and queues
Earlier today I was just putting in some washing and looking forward to a nice relaxing day after a rather stressful week when my phone rang. It was Cat who was out walking the dog. ‘Mum,’ she sa...
Beautiful late summer day
It was a beautiful day here on Thursday, hardly a cloud in the sky. Cat was doing her weight lifting and I couldn’t stay in, so I walked round to the main road and went into the charity shops. O...
Crumbs!
As if I didn’t have enough to cope with my laptop died last night. Cat is going to try to fix it while I am away. I came home this evening and, as usual, when I haven’t been here, the place is a ...
Fed up
I am totally fed up. The tooth that has been harassing me for over a year started playing up again at the end of last week. I rang the specialist on Friday. That was a marathon in itself, 6 phone...
Difficult two weeks with enjoyable interludes
These last 2 weeks things have been difficult for me healthwise. Partly because of that and partly because we have had a lot of other things going on I haven’t been here very much and have got be...
Another election and my birthday.
Theresa May has resigned at last. Listening to her resignation speech, I felt quite sorry for her. I have never voted Conservative but I don’t dislike Mrs May. It always seemed to me that she too...
The Severn Valley Railway
We are still enjoying the spring weather. It has been a little colder over the past 2 days but now it is warming up again. My back is more or less right now and I managed to clear one small flowe...
Baby Archie and a few other things
I’m really fed up today. I ordered a repeat prescription of my migraine meds from the doctors last Tuesday. They have their own pharmacy and you can ususaly collect within 48 hours. On Friday the...
I have a lot to write about but don’t seem to have found the time to complete an entry in almost 3 weeks. The plumber came last week and our toilet soil pipe is now replaced and the nasty asbesto...
An expensive time but we're counting our blessings
Another plumber called on Tuesday. He said the underground pipe is also leaking and we will need to dig up half of my flowerbed. That is a shame as it is looking so lovely and also has perennial ...
Notre Dame
I watched the news about Notre Dame in disbelief tonight. I was there almost exactly three years ago in May 2016. It was such an incredibly beautiful building. As the evening wore on the news kep...
Am I losing the plot?
When I checked my email this morning there was one of those notifications from Facebook - Today is Jill’s birthday. Oh my goodness, how could I have forgotten!? Jill was my best friend at school ...
British weather and another big problem to sort out
Yesterday I went to the next village for a doctor’s appointment and, although it was a showery day, there were lovely sunny intervals and I was enjoying the spring blossom, the last of the daffod...
Hubby has gone to the folk club this evening. It is one of my not well days and I didn’t feel up to it so I stayed home. I have just been watching East Enders on the laptop. The TV still isn’t ge...
Book Description
I live in a terraced cottage on a hillside in South Herefordshire, UK. We are just in England but from our windows we have a view of the Black Mountains which are in Wales. I live with my husband, 2 grown up sons and 4 cats, we also have a daughter who lives with her boyfriend in South Wales.
I don’t have good health but I do voluntary work on a crisis helpline. I love writing. I write poetry and have written a book about my childhood growing up in a pub in Shrewsbury which I am hoping to get published.
I love music. I sing and play guitar and enjoy entertaining, though I don’t get to do that so much as before my health got bad. My other interests are psychology, the environment, history, gardening, genealogy and travel.
Because of my health I am home a lot and this is my view from the terrace..
