"SOME SCARS TAKE A WHILE TO HEAL..."
I’ve been getting ‘signs’ from the universe lately. No, I’m not talking about something superstitious or scary. Spiritual, yes. Religious? Hmm, let’s not get ourselves too far ahead here. Anyway,...
"BEFORE THE TRAFFIC GETS CONGESTED AGAIN..."
It’s a common, annual thing for most people in Jakarta to go out of town during Eid holiday. Some are to see their relatives back home. Some just want to get away. For those who can’t, don’t, or ...
"THE GIRL WHO WON'T MAKE IT EASY ON YOU"
You probably see her roam around Jakarta alone. Day and night, she’s mostly on her own. She’s okay with it. It’s the people around her who often make a fuss about her being alone. It’s not that s...
"FORGIVEN BUT UNAPOLOGETIC"
Eid Mubarak is the day to celebrate the victory against human urges towards hunger, thirst, lust, anger, greed, and all the things that can lead us to greater sins. It is also the time to seek fo...
"A REASON TO LIVE"
When I read about Anthony Bourdain and Kate Spade’s suicides, I suddenly think of Alexander McQueen. I think of Chester Bennington, Chris Cornell, Tommy Page, Kurt Cobain…should I carry on? I’ve ...
“THE TROUBLE WITH WRITING (AND POSTING) FOR VIRALITY”
I’ve got to be honest with you. Having been a content writer (and a blogger) for a few years already means dealing with these matters, most of the time. It’s not a complaint, though. I’m just sta...
"JUST ANOTHER NIGHTMARE"
To some people, dreams are just dreams. They don’t (have to) mean a damn thing. No need to think about them too much, even when they’re bad. To others, especially if the dreams are repetitive, th...
"MY COOKING EXPERIENCES"
How do I feel about cooking? Seriously, don’t ask. When it comes to being a woman and living in Indonesia, I hate that question. It’s not that I really hate cooking. I’m just not that good at it ...
"THE STORIES BEHIND SCARS"
“You can only be your 100% self when you’re all alone. Still, who are you when you look in the mirror?” About a decade ago or so, I wrote something like that on my social media timeline. Perhaps ...
"ABOUT (AVOIDING) SADNESS"
Last weekend, which was on Saturday afternoon, I attended a book club gathering. We were discussing out favourite fiction books, when one of my friends – a young journalist – said this, in relati...
“VOICES OF THE SILENCE(D)”
Have you ever heard voices of the silence(d)? You’re probably wondering: what voices? Silence? What can you hear about them? No, not the silence. I’m talking about the silence(d). Not everyone wi...
"YOUR PAST, PRESENT, AND FUTURE"
Sometimes what we have is now and let’s be grateful for that. Enjoy the moment while it lasts. We may never get the same chance again. If you’re mostly happy, perhaps this is how you treat your p...

Book Description
You never really run out of stories to tell. If you look around closely and more carefully, you’ll find plenty.
That also happens if you live in Jakarta, Indonesia. Here, people always find some tales to tell, even if they’re quite mundane. Trivialities still excite them somehow – or maybe it’s just me and my point of view.
Of course, the real issue is how to divide them into:
1. What’s informative and useful.
2. What’s just informative.
3. Gossips and rumours, alias hoax news.
It’s nothing new that many have assumed that most Indonesians are not that well-read. They tend to fall for the last bit on the list above.
Well, that’s not always true. Allow me to prove you wrong.
