who i am in poetry

explaining to a friend that
I went to see him play guitar
instead of performing at an
open mic some distance away
I realized the best compliment that I
can give someone is
“I’d rather hear you than hear myself speak”
this is the best that I can do
I am a performer
if I say this you know
I believe you are magic
