Autumnal mists have arrived with the big anti-cyclone over us giving us settled weather - lovely sunny days, but cool/cold nights, and then the morning mists and fogginess. We were hoping to do some cutting back of the bushes, but the frosts may soon be appearing so it may have to wait a bit until the rain comes again.

And I have been having some pain in my feet after walking - so when I went to the podiatrist yesterday I asked my lovely lady in the white coat with gentle hands (!) to check out my posture and she thinks I may have one leg longer than the other and I am compensating in how I walk - and also my heels need support. So, I am going back to be assessed and measured for new inserts. It was when I started having an ache towards my groin in the my right leg that I though something was not right. (It was not from the exertions of continuous sexual intercourse or masturbation, that’s for sure)

Of course the big issue here is if the Scots vote to be independent in the referendum on 18th September- and all the implications. There is an awful lot of scare stories and propaganda going round on all sides - and clearly Westminster politicians have no idea what to do if the Scottish electorate vote yes. One interesting aspect is that for the first time in elections here 16 and 17 year olds have the vote - they are the ones most affected by the decision but how far will it be from the head or the heart? Anyway, politics and government in the United Kingdom (will it be the UK?) will never be the same again. Just to remind everyone that the voters in the Shetland Islands are closer to Norway that they are to Edinburgh.

Here, we are back to the programmes of meeting of organisations and groups for the autumn and winter - summer is over - kids are back at school, uniforms are looking less new - and ‘ mists and mellow fruifulness’ are all around us (John Keats : Ode to Autumn)
